Back in July, Mecca Bingo launched a campaign focused entirely around the brand new mobile app game Pokémon GO.

Mecca Bingo, in collaboration with creative studio SMACK invited Pokémon GO players to visit Mecca Clubs and take pictures of any pocket monsters they came across in or around the venue. Fans were then asked to post the photos on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accompanied by the hashtag #MeccaPokemon.

To promote the event, Mecca Bingo even created a 30-second advertisement video that begins by asking viewers if there are Pokémon GO crazy. Of course, Mecca Bingo was featured in the background of the promotion, though the app features prominently. Following the appearance of a Raticate and a Pidgey both waiting to be caught (a rather lackluster couple of Pokémon in hindsight), viewers were asked to ‘Snap one in and around a Mecca Club’ and ‘Tag it #MeccaPokemon’. According to the KPI (Key Performance Indicator), there were around 800 engagements between July 23rd and 30th July. In total, there were over 12,000 post engagements, 973 likes and almost 2,000 comments on Facebook alone. Half a million people got involved over the campaign, including the largest male audience ever recorded by Mecca Bingo. Everyone who posted a picture of a Pokémon accompanied by the hashtag was instantly added to a prize draw held at their local Mecca Bingo clubs. Prizes included food, bingo games and slots vouchers.
